January 2014-April 2014

Eighteen Members of the 2014 Leadership Union were divided into 4 groups of 4 or 5 people. We were tasked with developing a project that would bring benefit and recognition to Union County.

Our small group included Jim Brown III of Edwards Jones, Jack Lance of Lance Law Firm, Dana Nelson of Coldwell Banker High Country Realty and Pam Worden of the Union County Commissioner's Office. The group tossed around ideas and agreed to focus on our community’s reliance on tourism while utilizing the community’s historic Native American ties.

Jim Brown originally conceived of the idea to bring the Nations home. The team enthusiastically accepted the project and named the initiative, We Are Still Here, a Tri-State Native American Initiative. WASH-TSNAI

Only days after announcing the project, Kathie Garrett( Muscogee Creek) walked into Brown’s office for business advice and within minutes Kathie joined the project. Amazingly, the two had worked next door for years and had never met. John Chitwood, Joe Mealy and a local student Haley Grizzle ( Eastern Cherokee) would soon join the group.
